Immanuel is Searching for a Director of Parish Music

Summary

We are a Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS) congregation, dedicated to Holy Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions, with a vibrant music program and an emphasis on the best liturgical practices of the Western tradition. We are seeking an outstanding musical leader to oversee our parish music program. The Director of Parish Music works with the Senior Pastor, organist, and others to coordinate musical excellence and cultivate piety in the congregation’s liturgical life. The role is for 32 hours/week (with opportunities for additional hours/income if desired), and includes a competitive salary, full benefits, and paid time off, with an expected start date of September 2026.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead Choirs: Direct the adult choir, Bach Collegium, and a children’s choir.

  • Coordinate Musicians: Recruit, schedule, and organize volunteer and paid musicians for every Sunday.

  • Present Concerts: Plan, prepare, and perform (an) annual concert(s) for the congregation and community.

  • Manage documents, budget, and files: Manage the records and responsibilities of the music department.

  • Maintain instruments: Oversee the tuning, upkeep, and repairs of Immanuel’s organ, pianos, and other instruments.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience: Prior experience in an LCMS setting is highly preferred.

  • Education: Minimum Bachelor of Music; MA/MM preferred.

  • Theology: Deep understanding of and commitment to LCMS doctrine and Lutheran liturgy/hymnody.

  • Competencies: High proficiency in conducting; strong interpersonal skills; excellent communication and organization habits
