Trent Demarest

A native of Oregon, Trent Demarest has benefited from both a Lutheran and a classical liberal arts education. Mr. Demarest received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Hillsdale College, where he was a member of Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society. While at Hillsdale Mr. Demarest also served as a Regional Ambassador for the Intercollegiate Studies Institute and apprenticed in middle and high school history and literature at Hillsdale Academy, a K-12 classical school affiliated with the college. He had previously served as a middle school Teacher’s Aide at Zion Lutheran School, in Corvallis, Oregon, the same school he attended and graduated from in 2002.
Mr. Demarest’s passion for the humanities is evident both to his students and their parents. His favorite literary works include Homer's Odyssey, the poetry of John Donne, and the novels of Fyodor Dostoevsky. The piece de resistance of Mr. Demarest’s 7th and 8th grade Rhetoric class this year is A Pillar of Iron, novelist Taylor Caldwell's acclaimed historical-fictional account of the life of the Roman orator Cicero. In 5th and 6th grade theology Mr. Demarest's students will be studying the Acts of the Apostles. All of Mr. Demarest's upper school history classes will be exploring Law and Order in Civil Society in four historical/cultural epochs, Ancient, Medieval, American, and Modern European.
