Karen Maurer

A Grand Rapids, Michigan native, Miss Karen Maurer graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a Bachelor of Arts in Russian and Spanish, and from American University, with a Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language. In 2002, her love for languages led her to St. Petersburg, Russia, where she participated in a study abroad program. For several years after that, Miss Maurer taught English as a Second Language in the D.C. area, as well as acquired experience working with children with special needs. Miss Maurer also received her Education Specialist Degree in Reading Education from the University of Virginia.
Miss Maurer has been with the school since 2008, as Immanuel’s Called first grade teacher. She especially enjoys teaching reading, and helping students learn about God’s love for them. Her favorite Immanuel tradition is Lutheran Schools Week.
Some of Karen’s favorite non-school activities include reading, languages, and traveling.
