Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany 2011-2012

New Year's Eve and Day

There will be 2 worship services New Year's weekend, each with different readings, sermons, hymns and carols. These services continue the celebration of Holy Christmas.

The New Year's Eve Divine Service (7 p.m.) begins with the Confessional Address and an extended rite of corporate confession. As the year draws to a close, it is fitting to examine our lives in the light of God's holy Law, acknowledge our sins, and beseech His forgiveness. This service includes several Christmas hymns and carols, with readings focusing on a preparation for the return of Christ.

We will celebrate Holy Communion on New Year's Day at 10 a.m. (Sunday School and Bible classes will not be held.) On this Eighth Day of Christmas, we remember the circumcision and naming of JESUS, which took place on the eighth day of a birth of a Jewish boy. Many of the hymns on this day give thanks to God for bringing us to another new year and asking for His blessing and grace in it.
